Dream Animals that Aren't Alive

I'm not a fan of live animals but pieces of animals?
Yes please.

Like Burberry's Fox-head belt.
 Yum.

Or the claw boot from Friends of Mine.
If I don't own this at some point,
then I don't know what.

Alligator Jaws?
Best purchase I made in Florida.

And I'd say moving to the South has given me plenty of exposure to non-living animals.
(It's OK these are vintage and were actually used to keep innocent babies warm.)

They even have non-living animals when you grocery shop at your local market.
Yes, I mean Walmart.

I started talking about coveting things from Burberry and ended with shopping at Walmart.

I'm still figuring out my new home.
With this guy:
So, it's cool.

Such Lovely and Dreamy Girls

Ballerinas are the dreamiest of all...

they always look like they are about to float away.

And I adore ballet-inspired fashion
-- that mix of airy and light and
constrictive and form fitting clothing

I drool at the sight of a tulle skirt

or a ballet flat (especially by Chanel or Chloe)

From the audience they look like little fairies

with their hair swept away from the face to see those delicate cheekbones from years of not eating - I mean dancing.

So you can imagine how crazy I get when
magazines shoot ballet-inspired fashion.

And when it's Tim Walker shooting it?
Maddening!

I would do almost anything to own this Boot.

Except eat cilantro.

Hmmm, I do love them, maybe I would eat cilantro.

Dreamy Mens and Dreamy Rhymes

One night in NY, my clever friend Brigham
asked me if I got my 'knickers in Paris.'
I replied, 'No, NY.'

Oh man!

I completely missed his play on words which was ridiculous because I had JUST been talking (Read: bragging) about my upcoming Jay Z + Kanye West concert.  AND I had just told him they played 'Ninjas in Paris' 3 times when my sister saw them in North Carolina and he said they played it 5 times in Atlanta.

How many times would they play it in LA we wondered?  (More on that later.)

But back to my Mens in Paris.

The song has such simple rhymes that are a perfect mix of West Egg, East Egg and Ghetto Egg.  Geniuses!

So in honor of Kanye's extensive fashion education that just won't stop, I took a trip to Saks to smell 'untitled,' Maison Martin Margiela's first perfume.
Well it wasn't entirely for his honor, since the scent made its way to the US in April I alway stop at the Saks in NY (their display is better than the one in LA) to smell it.

And isn't Saks on 5th Ave so pretty at Christmas?
I'm unsure about how I feel about wearing the perfume, which is why I'm content to just smell on occasion and not buy.

I almost bought the pen they created for Opening Ceremony but could not justify it when I already had an orange feather pen bought at the Folger Shakespeare Library in DC.  See how practical I am?

There was a great photo from Vogue which I could not find of the Margiela staff, including its head designer with obscured faces, wearing matching lab coats.

I am so tempted to take advantage of Vogue's ridiculous offer to charge $1,575 for one year's access to their newly digitized 119 years of archives.  Then I could post the Margiela photo.  Maybe if was $1,575 for 5 years of access, but one year?  I'm not there yet.

In the meantime I will just dream of the clothes:

(I wouldn't really wear the plastic seat-cushion you put over your furniture to protect it form life.  But I would love to wear a mini-military coat.)

And the shoes!

If I could rewind to 2009 I'd do everything I could to buy these:

Don't even get me started on the 'toe shoes.'
 Madness!
 I think Kanye would approve.

Dreaming of the Glimmer Twins

The cold weather and approaching Holidays remind me of all things glimmery, those objects that shine softly and intermittently.
Just like Mick + Keith.

What I Wore . . .

I was in a Russian-figure-skater kind of mood on Sunday.
Which means there was only one outfit for me.

My Nehru collar, flared skirt, vintage dress bought at the Annex Flea Market (now located in Hell's Kitchen):

With my golden LaROK swing coat (so sparkly):

Paired with these wonderfully-tall-but-
so-comfortable Steve Madden wedge boots:

And where did I wear this Slavic ensemble?
Oh just to The Beauty Social. And what pray tell is that? It's an 'event bringing together beauty and online social media,' sponsored by Beautylish.

I went with my Missoni-clad niece and sister.

We all sat in one of the upstairs ballrooms
at the Loews hotel in Santa Monica
and listened to some brilliant speakers.

My favorite was Claire Wineland, an exceptional girl who set up a charity for families who are affected by cystic fibrosis. She spoke (sans notes) about inner beauty and appreciating our bodies and in the end received a standing ovation.

Fresh set up a booth and I wanted to buy everything there. Sadly nothing was for sale but, I did get to try the new Sugar Passion Tinted Lip Treatment.
I use these lip balms every night before I go to bed and when I want to look like I'm not wearing any make-up (but I secretly am). My next trip to Sephora I am buying a Mini Sugar Kissing Trio. Did I mention these taste delicious as well? Not that anyone should substitute lip gloss for a meal.

Of course I had to take advantage of
every beauty-related service offered.

I had my brows 'done' at benefit, which was a first for me since they are so overwhelming to begin with. Not the most practical choice but I'm a sucker for someone applying make-up on me.

Then I had my face sprayed with foundation at Temptu.
It felt like gusts of air on my face
and I didn't want it to stop.
Notice a difference? Trust me, there is one.

I finished it off with a visit to the Goody booth.

She did a good job, right?
Isn't the lobby at Loews, great?
Too many questions?

Before I left I had to do an 'After' shot
by the step-and-repeat.

Look, I didn't go just for the gift bag, but it did warm my heart to walk away with so many goodies. Especially one with Kate Somerville's ExfoliKate (jackpot!).
