What I Wore . . .

I knew that wardrobe would be tres important when it came to the Kanye West + Jay Z concert, especially after hearing THIS story.

And of course I wanted to look my bestest anyway
for Jay Z

and Kanye West
our of respect for how they present themselves.

I contemplated going dressed like this
but, timing did not allow for the necessary preparations
so I settled for a Kid Cudi look:

This requires a little boy's blazer from Deseret Industries, checked button down from J. Crew, a skinny burgundy tie bought years ago for a Franz Ferdinand concert,

even skinnier H&M jeans (my mom took them in to make them more anorexic),  and my 1996 Jack Purcell's, which I was recently asked to throw away.

I went with my comrade Bek and as you can see
we were in a state of ecstasy:

The Mens certainly delivered.

Two stages that would rise and fall to the occasion.  Movies of Great White Sharks.  Multiples costume changes on Ye's part and none for J.  That's ALL I want in life.

Oh wait, there was something else I wanted.

At the LA show the night before they played 'Ninjas in Paris' 9 times.  I wanted to beat the record by 1.

Thank you boys for making that dream come true.

And I'm sorry Bek, I know you wanted them to stop at 3.

Dream Birthday and Time of Year

I love that my Birthday falls around/or on Thanksgiving for many reasons.

1. I love spending my birthday surrounded by friends and family.

2. I love dressing up as a pilgrim and having my little sister dress as a Native American.

3. I love ending a day of eating turkey with either a pink birthday cake or flan.

4. I love being about to see a Twilight movie to distract me from the fact that I'm old.
(Yes, I'm one of those.)

This year was no different. In fact, it might be the best one yet.

Mitch and her family threw me a lovely party with all the pizza and desserts and Raspberry decor she could find. Do you know one of the reasons I love Mitch so much? If you hand her something, like say a Mexican dress from Deseret Industries, she will put it on right then and there - even if it doesn't really match. Bless.

I had 3 cakes, but I think the one Erhan brought from The Coffee Garden was the clear favorite. There was nothing left of it at the end of the night.

And yes, that is the Missoni for Target sweater I bought the day it came out, paired with another birthday gift from my Sister.
She happened upon a Missioni for Target mini-skirt in my size. I tell you, that lady is a master visualizer.
P.S. I thought my brother looked extra sharp, with his yellow shirt, thick glasses and herringbone jacket.

This year was also special because we had several finance experts in attendance who talked about the world's economy, excel and working with models.

And babies talking about baby things.

And at the end of the night, Mitch let me brush her hair while she read book 2 of The Hunger Games out loud (if it's not one young adult series, then it's another).

If You Want a Dreamy Costume . . .

. . . Just head to Deseret Industries,
a magical thrift store located all over The West
(it's also a nonprofit, vocational rehabilitation facility, which means there's good karma all over.)

I've had really good luck here with various dresses/costumes.
(Here I am last December when I needed
a classic holiday gown.)

And look who was parked in front the last time I went:
The most awesome car ever born.

For Halloween this year I went to the D.I.
in downtown Los Angeles hoping to recreate this:

I found this dress for $6 that originally had a white belt sewn on. I unstitched the belt and gathered the hem for volume.

I added tulle and lace sleeves for an 80's touch and borrowed my sister's crinoline.

Don't worry, I had a Beetlejuice with me so people wouldn't mistake me for PJ Harvey or Amy Winehouse.
