Dreamy Halloween Costumes: Couples Edition

So I finally have a permanent Halloween Costume partner and it turns out that this guy hates to dress up for Halloween.  It was like pulling teeth to get him to dress up as Alvie Singer to my Annie Hall.

Oh, Woody and Diane did it so much better - but at least I got the wrinkles down for authenticity.

Halloween was always my favorite holiday and one I took tres seriously as you can see HERE, HERE and HERE.  But my legal domestic companion will only dress up if it requires minimal effort.

You'd think that Lisbeth Salander and
Mikael Blomkvist would be a perfect fit. . .

He could dress Scandinavian minimal and I could dress like a punk rock little boy, but, alas, he nixed this idea.

Then there's the obvious:

But he's not a fan of Frida and absolutely HATES Diego (I've told him too many stories, maybe).  I didn't tell him that our engagement photos were an homage to them (by the way, he hated putting his hand on my shoulder like I was property but I was art directing and that's exactly the look I wanted).

So then I decided to pull from history, cool looking 1960s history, of course.  Like Serge and Jane.  Granted I can't pull off bangs like Jane Birkin (trust, I cut some last week) but I would LOVE to see Hubbo in one of Serge Gainsbourg's suits.

He said absolutely not, no one would know we were in costume (I offered to carry a basket and he still refused!).

OK, fine, but EVERYONE knows Liz Taylor and Richard Burton.

It's crazy that Richard's smoking on his wedding day DURING the wedding photos.  Crazy amazing!
You KNOW I already have all the flowers and wire to make her wedding 'veil,' but guess what . . .he said 'No.'

And he said 'No' to Talitha and John Paul Getty (in Morocco, of course).  I didn't even mention her heroin overdose!

His main argument was, surprise!, that no one would know who we were.  Maybe they wouldn't but I would and I would love to see him draped in robes.

Ok, fine, maybe people wouldn't recognize all those people but SURELY, SURELY he would agree on Mick and Bianca.

If we stuck to their wedding day attire and I kept a dour look on my face because my husband-to-be had just given me a prenuptial agreement, then EVERYONE would know who we were . . .

He disagreed.

I got more of a reaction when I suggested Jack and Wendy

from the Shining but I think the idea of me in overalls

made him finally say no to that one as well.

Well if movies were his jam, then Only Lovers Left Alive
would be my first choice.

Especially if I could wear this gorgeous caftan
This was a strong 'NO!' from him.  He argued that for SURE no one would know who we were.  'They would if we were in New York,' I grumbled.

OK, maybe Jim Jarmusch wasn't huge in Austin but you know Wes Anderson is.  And, with Tilda on my mind and a desire to dress like a Golden Girl I suggested Madame D. and M, Gustave from The Grand Budapest Hotel.

He counted with Zero and Agatha and I was shocked!  This would require a costume on his part.  Excited, I started to plan our outifts.  Then Hubbo told me, in reality he probably wouldn't do it.  Well, I guess I'm glad he's honest.

Maybe I can trick him into this at the last minute:

Dreaming of Fire-Breathing Dragons

I almost saw this movie for a 3rd time this weekend.
It didn't happen but there's always next weekend.

Dreamiest Make-Believe Couple

Doesn't this look like
Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig's
wedding day?

Thanks to her perfect Givenchy gown.
Oh Riccardo Tisci, you can do no wrong.

[Really it's them at the London premiere
for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.]

If these are their wedding day photos, then the New York premiere would be from their 'Engagement Dinner.'

Rooney in a modern, ethereal confection from Prabal Gurung
. . . and Daniel Craig in that hot hot suit.

I don't know if I've mentioned this but I love the way he dresses on and off screen.

Hmm, then the Stockholm premiere (with Rooney in Roksanda Ilincic), would be them leaving for their honeymoon.
I would want to dress smartly too when I left
on my honeymoon with Daniel Craig.

Anticipating a Dream Movie

I know it's dangerous to anticipate a movie so intensely because that always increases the potential disappointment.  But sometimes it pays off.

In less than a week we can watch
(And the perfect Rooney Mara.)

Even if the movie fails to meet my expectations,
the Lisbeth Look already has me enthralled.

H&M's collaboration with TGWTDT's costume designer Trish Summerville debuted yesterday in select locations.  Remember when I told you about that?

But what I really want
is for this to be available for purchase:
(all of it)

Dreaming of Dragons and Fire

I think I missed the mark on my Halloween costume this year.
I knew I wanted the costume to include a partner, like my Black Swan ensemble last year, and I did not want it to be too obvious (like dressing as Black Swan this year).
But instead of Beetlejuice I should have gone this route:
Oh no, sorry I meant This route:
No offense to the original Swedish movies.
Niles Arden Oplev did an amazing job on the trilogy
But I think this is just a tad too Swedish for me
(and whoever I chose to dress up with).
Oh, maybe that last photo was just an awkward shot,
because this one isn't so bad:
But I'd still rather be the David Fincher version,
for obvious reasons.

Daniel Craig as Blomkvist is making me melt and I haven't even seen the movie. And I adore his wardrobe.

Assuming I would be thin enough to attempt to be Lisbeth Salander, step one would be getting the details for hair and make-up. Piercings, asymmetrical haircut, bleached eyebrows:
The bleached eyebrows would be especially fun to sport.
I've wanted to try that look since Christina Ricci bleached her's for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Imagine going out the next morning looking similar to this:
I can't wait for Rooney Mara to break my heart and intimidate me with her bony structure and pale skin.

Then we move on to her wardrobe created by Trish Summerville.
I have a hoodie but no jean jacket.
I might also need tougher boots.
I would need a longer winter cape,
mine is a tad too cropped.
I've wanted a tough puffy jacket that isn't bright orange for quite some time now.
I'm sure I have a hat similar to this one, but I will jump at any excuse to buy another unisex oversized beanie.
Hmmm, these photos must have been on Rooney's day off because I don't think Lisbeth would work out in Nike
and shop at Ikea.

Maybe it's best that I waited, because Trish Summerville has a collection coming out for H&M in December based on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. December 14th to be specific.
I can't wait to peruse the skinny leather (or more likely faux-leather) jackets and pants and faded, slouchy shirts. Maybe I should try the hair and eyebrows after all.

One more positive thing about the new American version are all the editorials coming out to promote it.
Thank you W
and Vogue.

Maybe I'll just go into a Lisbeth-light phase in my life right now. Wardrobe wise. I usually wear pants in the winter months anyway.

And next Halloween to be slightly-ahead-of-relevant I'll just be the Swedish version of The Girl Who Played With Fire.
