Dreamy Ads Make Dreamy Editorials

Sometimes I find Prada advertisements disconcerting in a good way.  They never look like other ads and immediately transport you to some otherworldly fashion dimension.

But what I love even more is
when Prada is used in editorials.

Remember this rose-print dress that was everywhere in the 90s?  And do you remember this neo-Mod story from Vogue with Kirsty Hume and her husband Donovan Leitch?  Amazing.

I love it when Miuccia Prada does old-lady floral prints and makes them really young looking.  And I loved this story with Natalie Portman from W.

The monkey print from Spring 2011 was so Frida Kahlo and something I dreamed of owning.  Don't worry, I would have toned it down and left the floral wreath at home.

Natalia Vodianova and Sam Riley played Quadrophenia in Vogue's September 2011 issue.  It made me want to bundle up (well just not wear a bathing suit) and go to an English sea side town.

Charlotte Gainsbourg in Prada for French Vogue.  I'm glad they got her out of Balenciaga for one second enough to shoot this photo.

Then there was this Print that I am obsessed with to this day.  This photo was so simple and beautiful -- just the outfit of my dreams on a lovely, happy girl.  Thank you Vogue from 1996.

Dreaming of Tailored Trousers and Ties

I love a beautiful woman in menswear.
OK, I know Christopher Walken isn't a beautiful woman, but I would love to wear his ensemble.

I have attempted menswear many times over the years and I always seen to forget my tie clip.

I love that a strong jacket, shirt and pant
can make a woman feel powerful. . .

. . . or adorable.

I think next I need to experiment with black, red and white.

I love Winona in black on black
with touches of Victorian charm.

In all honesty I was skeptical about Rachel Zoe's line,
but she had some amazing pieces, like this red tuxedo.

I still think about this story from W in 2009.
This white YSL suit is a dream come true.

This winter all I want to wear are suits and trousers and I think I'll just let Elizabeth Peyton be my guide.

Dream Movie on a Dream Woman

I would say as far as ecumenical agreements go,
Carine Roitfeld is the sexiest,

most interesting ex-editor,
fashion-world figure we have.
She's intimidating but not icy cold
(unlike You Know Who in America).
Chic without being over-the-top clownish
(unlike You Know Who in Italy).

She has a way of making you covet things
you know you can't pull off.
Maybe I could wear these Current/Elliott jeans alright.
But most likely they would be a huge mistake.

W made all my dreams come true when they made a movie with Carine, showcasing her new role in couture as a client, called . . . Carine Roitfeld: The Client.

And there's that White Dress I dream of . . .

I can't stop watching it.

Here are a few lovelies from the film's Photo Shoot:

Thank goodness she edited/wrote A Book for us to indulge in when we miss the good old days when she reined at French Vogue.

Dreaming of Dragons and Fire

I think I missed the mark on my Halloween costume this year.
I knew I wanted the costume to include a partner, like my Black Swan ensemble last year, and I did not want it to be too obvious (like dressing as Black Swan this year).
But instead of Beetlejuice I should have gone this route:
Oh no, sorry I meant This route:
No offense to the original Swedish movies.
Niles Arden Oplev did an amazing job on the trilogy
But I think this is just a tad too Swedish for me
(and whoever I chose to dress up with).
Oh, maybe that last photo was just an awkward shot,
because this one isn't so bad:
But I'd still rather be the David Fincher version,
for obvious reasons.

Daniel Craig as Blomkvist is making me melt and I haven't even seen the movie. And I adore his wardrobe.

Assuming I would be thin enough to attempt to be Lisbeth Salander, step one would be getting the details for hair and make-up. Piercings, asymmetrical haircut, bleached eyebrows:
The bleached eyebrows would be especially fun to sport.
I've wanted to try that look since Christina Ricci bleached her's for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Imagine going out the next morning looking similar to this:
I can't wait for Rooney Mara to break my heart and intimidate me with her bony structure and pale skin.

Then we move on to her wardrobe created by Trish Summerville.
I have a hoodie but no jean jacket.
I might also need tougher boots.
I would need a longer winter cape,
mine is a tad too cropped.
I've wanted a tough puffy jacket that isn't bright orange for quite some time now.
I'm sure I have a hat similar to this one, but I will jump at any excuse to buy another unisex oversized beanie.
Hmmm, these photos must have been on Rooney's day off because I don't think Lisbeth would work out in Nike
and shop at Ikea.

Maybe it's best that I waited, because Trish Summerville has a collection coming out for H&M in December based on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. December 14th to be specific.
I can't wait to peruse the skinny leather (or more likely faux-leather) jackets and pants and faded, slouchy shirts. Maybe I should try the hair and eyebrows after all.

One more positive thing about the new American version are all the editorials coming out to promote it.
Thank you W
and Vogue.

Maybe I'll just go into a Lisbeth-light phase in my life right now. Wardrobe wise. I usually wear pants in the winter months anyway.

And next Halloween to be slightly-ahead-of-relevant I'll just be the Swedish version of The Girl Who Played With Fire.
